5.23.07 - Update

Ryan and Becca's brother in law has set up a website so people can check on updates on Becca. Please check it out: www.prayers4becca.com

We went to visit her last night and she was the most alert we have seen her since her surgery. Her eyes were open during the entire hour we visited. She seemed to track us and tried to focus on the person speaking. It was good to see her doing that. At the same time, we also saw her display emotion for the first time - she looked like she was trying to cry. It's sp very hard to watch her go through that!! We are a little more encouraged each day and hope that this pattern of small improvements continues. She is going to be moved to a different hospital later this week to begin rehab, which will be pretty intense.

We are constantly asked "What can I do to help?" Our answer has always been to continue praying.

Pray for:
-Becca - pray that she continues to show signs of improvement and pray for strength as she begins rehab

-the entire family - pray for patience and strength as we support her during the rehab. It's already been a very long road for us...and there is still a long way to go.

-us (Chris and Amy) - pray for us as we continue to try to balance our schedule of hospital visits, teaching, time with Jacob and Jenna, and every day things around the home. We are constantly trying to juggle our schedules, and even though it is exhausting at times, we know that we are doing the right thing.

-Jacob and Jenna - pray for patience - they have been waiting a long time to see Aunt Becca, and they are going to have to continue to wait even longer. It's difficult to explain everything to them. Pray that they will have a small sense of understanding and not be afraid.

-the doctors - They have been amazing so far. Pray for continued guidance as they work with Becca, especially since she will be working with a whole new set of doctors, nurses, and therapists once she moves to a different hospital this week

Just a note from Deena's friends at Stewart's ENT that we have been praying for Becca since the day of surgery and will continue to pray for Becca and the family. May God give you the strength to continue helping Becca thru this life experience. Love to All! Lisa, Carly, Kathryn, Trisha, Angela, Kristy, Rebecca & Dr. Stewart

Well, how sweet was that first comment? Thank you for sharing the update. I'm glad it's encouraging. I'm sure in this situation you have to look for baby steps. Thanks also for requesting specific prayers, altho' I'm pretty sure I've hit them all. You're all with me every morning in the shower. No, don't get a visual of that! Sometimes you're with me on my way to work, too, and that's a better image.

Thanks for the laugh, Nancy! :) Actually - I have a very good friend who does "shower prayers" too...so I completely understood.

The first comment was from co-workers of Ryan's sister, Deena. You just never know who is going to be checking out your blog!!!

How wonderful that you are seeing some signs of progress in Becca! Even the smallest step is probably very hard work for her. Prayers for all of you are ongoing!
